Dr. Sy
Dr. Sy completed his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan. He was formerly an advisor with a top-tier global management consultancy. He has also served in the U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Beret) and was the Distinguished Honor (Top) Graduate of the U.S. Army Leadership Program, U.S. Army Special Forces Program, and U.S. Army Egyptian Arabic Language Program. He enjoys Brazilian Jujitsu and creating abstract metal sculptures.
He is also a professor at UCR and has won numerous research and teaching awards. His research areas include leadership, followership, and teams, focusing on schemas (implicit theories), emotions, diversity, and unconscious processes and biases.
Dr. Sy provides consulting, training, and coaching services. He has worked with many, including General Motors, Google, Zappos, Los Angeles County, and many more. His research is funded by three awards from the U.S. Army Research Institute and the National Research Foundation of Korea and has been published in many outlets, including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior, and Human Decision Processes and many others.

Merab Gomez
Merab Gomez is a fourth-year doctoral candidate in the Leadership and Group Dynamics Lab at the University of California, Riverside. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, she earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio before completing a Master’s in Psychological Research at Texas State University. Her research examines how humans interact with technology and the enduring human elements that shape digital landscapes, covering topics such as social media influencer leadership, remote work satisfaction, and the user experience (UX) of a mobile gaming application. For her dissertation, she plans to study leader-follower identities within virtual teams. She also has experience as a consultant and teaching assistant and intends to pursue a career in consulting and research. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, working out, traveling, and tending to her plants.
